The new year has unfortunately started off tragically for John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston.

According to Michael Ossi, a lawyer for the family, the 16-year-old son of the Hairspray star died today after suffering a seizure. The family had been at their vacation home in the Bahamas when the incident occurred.

Jett, the couple's eldest child, had suffered from a history of seizures. His parents have stated that his developmental disability had been linked to Kawasaki disease. Coincidentally, the inflammatory disorder which can lead to heart attacks just got some media attention last week. The son of Backstreet Boys' Brian Littrell was recently diagnosed with an atypical form of the disease. (Baylee has since been released from the hospital.)

John and Kelly, married since 1991, also have an 8-year-old daughter named Ella Bleu.
